National Home Security Month – October 2022
The month of April is National Home Security Month. It is the perfect time to evaluate your home’s security measures and determine if they can be improved. Our goal this month is to provide insight, advice, and tips on how to stay safe during the darker nights.
Keep It Locked
To keep your home and belongings safe, make sure all doors and windows are securely locked. By installing high-quality locking systems and double-checking that access points are locked when you’re out of the house or even in the room, you can prevent an intruder from easily breaking in. Also, make sure that locks aren’t damaged or easy to break, as this gives burglars an advantage.
Keep It Lit
As burglars love the dark, it is less likely that your home will become the victim of a burglary if exterior lighting timers are installed. This is because exterior lighting timers eliminate any dark spots around the home where a burglar could sneak in undetected.
The best motion sensor lighting is one that detects movement, so anyone approaching your house will be illuminated for the whole street to see.
Keep Outbuildings Secure
Sheds and outbuildings may not be your first security priority. However, tools and equipment kept inside these outbuildings could be used by a burglar to their advantage and gain access to your home. Bikes, gardening equipment and furniture will always be a good target for a burglar should the outbuildings be left unlocked.
Regularly Maintain Burglar Alarms
Maintenance of burglar alarms is also crucial. Ensuring they’re in good working condition could help deter burglars from targeting your home by ensuring that burglar alarms are always set. Furthermore, keeping track of when they were switched on and off should provide insight into their condition.
Increased Home Security
Installing a home safe will provide added protection for valuables and important documents. The items stored in these safes will remain protected even if an intruder gains access to your home.
Get the right installation
Purchasing a home safe without being professionally installed may not provide the required protection. Furthermore, if someone broke into your home and the safe was not secured, the entire safe and its contents could be stolen.
